The Mercer County Library System

The Mercer County Library System (MCLS) recognizes that access to information empowers individuals with knowledge and opportunity. The Library is committed to providing the materials and services that satisfy the educational, informational, recreational, and cultural needs of our diverse community, and strives to encourage a lifelong interest in reading.

We are located in Mercer County, NJ and are comprised of 9 branches: Ewing, Hickory Corner, Hightstown, Hollowbrook, Hopewell, Lawrence, Robbinsville, Twin Rivers, and West Windsor. Our headquarter is at the Lawrence Branch.

About the Hightstown Memorial Branch
The Hightstown Memorial Branch is a unique member of the Library System because of its history, location, and resources.

The Hightstown Memorial Branch began as a small municipal library in 1921. The present building was constructed in 1954 and was dedicated as a war memorial to veterans of our community. The library then became a branch of the Mercer County Library in 1969 and has been expanded in 1975 and 1997.

The Hightstown Memorial Branch is the only branch that hosts an attractive reading room that overlooks the tranquil waters of Peddie Lake. We are also the only branch in the system that has a fireplace in the main room.

We have ten computers available to the public for word processing and Internet searching. In addition to our books, magazines, newspapers, and local newspapers on microfilm, we have a large collection of DVDs—with a special emphasis on children’s educational videos. We also have music CDs, CD-ROMs, and books on CD. Our Spanish collection also makes us a unique member of the Library System.

We specialize in quality children’s programming, bestsellers for our patrons, and computer instruction. We are very grateful for the new laptop computers recently donated by friends of our library through the Hightstown Library Association.

About the Hickory Corner Branch
As the largest eastern branch of the Mercer County Library System, the Hickory Corner Branch is a hub of activity for our community. The branch offers a comfortable space to read, study and connect.

Our youth services staff offer engaging Baby and Story Times for children 3 months to 5 years, and so much more. S.T.E.A.M. programs for children of all ages, Teen & Tween Yoga and Story Stretches, LEGO projects, and the ever-popular Slime are just a few of their many programs each month.

Adult programs on a variety of subjects including heath, legal issues, education, exercise, and genealogy, are offered at the branch. The library also offers computer and technology classes, or schedule a one-on-one session with a knowledgeable librarian. Check out our branch calendar for current program listings.

The branch’s several community rooms are in near-constant use, offering meeting space for a wide variety of nonprofit groups. We also have a Quiet Study room available for everyone.

Be sure to enjoy Hickory Corner’s monthly displays. Exhibitors have ranged in age from 6 to 90 and represent the diverse interests of our community. Collections and displays ranging from rubber ducks to telegraph insulators to photography and original artwork are sure to inspire.
