Roger Cook, an engineer, was the owner and founder of The Art Station in 1990. The building, built in the 19th century, was originally an agricultural depot and had been purchased by Mr. Cook in 1985 for an invention that didn’t transpire. When four artists approached him for studio space during the renovation of the building, The Art Station was born,

Valerie Black, the daughter of Roger Cook, stated “I bought The Art Station in 2009, after my father passed away. The place and the artists meant a great deal to him. It is my honor to be able to continue what my father started. The community of artists there make it the special place that it is.” The artists at The Art Station often comment on what a difference being a part of a community of artists, as well as having space to create, has meant to them. One artist, Ingrid Davis, a longtime tenant for almost 20 years, remarked, “The Art Station is my home away from home. Mr. Roger Cook will be forever remembered fondly and his heart and spirit can be found everywhere in this lovely space
